Four Hands is a dynamic furniture design and distribution company located in Austin, Texas.  We are looking to fill a key role in our fast paced Traffic Department.  We are seeking a transformational leader who thrives on innovation, analytics, and can take our growing organization to the next level.

The Assistant Traffic Manager will perform a variety of duties to manage the Shipping Coordinators, assist the Traffic Manager, and provide exceptional internal and external customer service to support all departments across the Company.  Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for the supervision of shipping documentation including bills-of-lading, packing slips and arranging transportation schedules with carriers to meet the service-level agreements.  This role will also work closely with IT and Warehouse Operations to identify areas for continuous process improvement, cost reduction, and assist with implementation of these processes as needed.


  • Analyze operations and traffic metrics to develop, recommend, and implement continuous operational improvements
  • Support the Traffic Manager with day-to-day traffic duties including service-level agreements, transit times, carrier score cards, freight invoices, negotiating freight rates, etc.
  • Assist the Traffic Manager with daily, weekly and monthly reporting
  • Monitor and maintain all trucks and warehouse equipment to include PM schedules, DOT files, and carrier requirements
  • Create shipping documentation including bills of lading, shipping labels, and export paperwork (NAFTA Certificates)
  • Coordinate routing of outgoing shipments through various customers and their logistics teams
  • Schedule transportation of shipments by working closely with the Traffic Manager to insure on-time shipments
  • Help manage the inbound container delivery schedule
  • Route and maintain truck schedules
  • Maintain shipment files and internal customer inquiries regarding the status of shipments
  • Prepare and follow-up on freight claims
  • Report goals, operational procedures, objectives, and position responsibilities to shipping and traffic associates
  • Manage work schedules according to fluctuating customer demand
  • Work closely with Sales and Operations Departments to insure transactional accuracy
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by management


  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Passionate advocate for continuous improvement and customer service
  • Self-directed individual who is able to work and stay organized with multiple responsibilities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid financial and analytical skills including sound business judgement
  • Familiarity with LEAN practices a plus
  • Third-party logistics experience a plus
  • Furniture experience a plus
  • Maintain and understand the importance of a safe working environment for all employees
